It's Raining Its Pouring and Im Racing when I could be snoring. :)
WoW the heavens have opened at this months Rye House Race.
A few things change in the wet, kart set up and the lines we take on the track.
You need to use 'Wets' in full rain, these are tyres with more grip than slicks. Front wheels out as far as possible for more turn, Rear wheels should be in for more grip.
My weight doesn't play a huge factor in the wet in fact it helps my race as I'm lower down sticking to the track! Just as well because I wear extra clothing, A full water proof suit over my race wear and rubber boots.
My helmet is replaced with the clear visor to aid my view and I use anti fog spray to stop it getting steamed up!!!
Before the race a waterproof cover protects my kart, and on the grid umbrellas are held over the drivers .
My racing lines change so I take the outside of the track and I don't hit the apex because I'd spin out. A smooth drive in the rain is important never slamming the breaks.
Update....
I raced my best this weekend I came away with 4th place - I'm really chuffed with my result. I held 3rd in the final so so long then lost a little bit of time through a puddle, allowing Jordan Timberlake to over take me :( with only 2 laps to go.
Things are going in the right direction for me. Love Brooke xx

Trouble at the grid....
When the guy in front of you doesn't go, all you can do is wait aragh!!!! Today thats exactly what happened to me, novice kart 88 had an engine fault which meant his kart couldn't start up on the grid, leaving me way behind the pack once i finally go onto the track. I had to quickly catch up to the others in time for the green flag (start of the race). Its a horrible feeling because your set to go all the adrenal is building up ready for take off.....then u hearts racing because you know everyones out already and you don't want to be left behind. i've uploaded the clip to youtube so you can maybe see the tension.
The London Cup
I had a fantasic weekend testing Thursday - Friday then Racing Saturday - Sunday at the London Cup @ Rye House. The All-Stars Team Coached by professional racing driver Luke Hines was there to give us all support and guidance. My Kart had brand new graphics and I had a new race suit for the occasion. The weekend was thankfully dry, everyone raced safely with only one red flag at the final (Ollie crashed into the barrier but after a little ride in the ambulance fine) . Oh I nearly forgot I won best presented kart throughout the season..... Go Me!!! I got framed picture of myself and lots of cleaning products for my kart, so i better keep on top of the polishing!!! :)
Enjoy some of the photos from the weekend.

Red Flagged @ Camberley Practice
Today my practice was cut short after spinning off and crashing into the barrier at top speed. I took a corner too fast and was unable to get my kart back on track as I hit the grass and lost control. Unfortunately I hurt my hand pretty bad and was taken off the track in an ambulance, here I was given a splint and my arm was held up with a sling. I was no longer allowed on the track. Instead I had to go for an X-ray! Just some bad swelling and bruising, but no break thankfully. I should be racing next week.
Fastest time around the track today was 27.06 x

I'm off my novice plates
My first time off my novice plates didn't go as planned. My practice lap was hard as I had no air in my tyres (whoops) the other laps didn't get much better after a couple of overtakes I just couldn't get my speed consistent and fell behind, finishing LAST.
Better luck next time.
Off track was however loads of fun I've made some great friends and I'm enjoying my time at the track more and more!!

Bye Bye Novice Plates
I've got all my 5 signatures for my races now so it's off with the black and white plates and onto yellow and black. It's a big deal as I know longer have to start at the back if I get a good qualifying time :)
However no longer a novice means i have greater expectations on my racon so hopefully tomorrow I will give all I have, drive well and get close to the top runners! Check back tomorrow to see how I get on.... Fingers Crossed xx

Rye House July 2012
Racing this weekend was wicked the sun was out all day for practice so i got some great laps in. Race day was a little colder with a few light showers, I'm still dropping seconds with every practice my best lap time was 43secs I'm still losing a second due to my height. We are going to look at ways to reduce the weight from the Kart.
I won best novice again so I was pleased, I'm just looking forward to bringing the bigger cups home soon.

My Training Day with Luke Hines
I had a fantastic day being coached by Luke Hines Zip Kart Owner, Race Driver and owner of young guns karting team!!!!
It was the hottest day of the year and man did it feel hot in my suit and helmet.
We trained at rye house nailing corners and picking up my speed. It gave me so much confidence and was great to hear his advise and thoughts on how I was driving. He said he was very impressed so I'm going out this weekend to show him I can put into action all his tips and hopefully walk away with a trophy.
As I am a little heavier (as I'm tall) I need to get some weight down as that's losing me seconds I am going to start training and eating better (not so many snacks) And get a good night sleep before races as I was tired the last two.
Fastest lap time 44secs :))
Bring on the race weekend!!!!
I would like to Thanks DK for their support without there generosity I would not have been able to take this opportunity.

Camberley Race Track
Today I tried out a new track, Camberley. It was a easier track to master and I got good times for my first visit. It was great to race against other the other drivers today I was hungry for a win. I took first place a few times I just need to lay of the brake alittle to shave valuable seconds of my lap time and I'll be up there with the fastest times. Watch my video to see how a multi car spin out allows me a multi overtake :)) lol cheers guys!!

Top Novice
The nerves set in on the morning off my first race and to make it worse the track was wet!!!!!
So after a night sleeping in our van at the track, I woke up early ready for scrutineering at 8am. Here they check over my kart, tyres, brakes, and engine number, my boots have to have grip, my suit & helmet must be FIA approved. My kart and I are weighed and must be 99 kilo's min. I am 110 with my kart.
Next we had a breakfast camp site!!! Bacon Rolls (Yummy)
At the drivers briefing they go through the rules, they are pretty strict and experienced drivers are told to look out for novices.....which puts me at ease.
I'm called for practice, 3 laps round the track was soaking but I made it round safely.
I'm at the back as I'm a novice (black plates) but its a good place to be to work on my lines and follow the more experienced drivers. There were 3 heats and I managed to take 9 seconds of my lap time. My fastest lap of the day was 50.06seconds. :)) Winning me "TOP NOVICE" I was pretty proud.
No crashes and no spin outs to report.

My Kit Bag
My kit for karting doesn't just include a helmet and kart i have to be properly suited up at all times. All must be approved to race standards.
My undergarments help me stay dry, and either warm or cool depending on the outdoor climate.
In racing there is a risk of fire so I need to wear a fire proof suit, race boots to help prevent slips on oil or fuel. The rib protector (specially designed for ladies) will protect me in the event of a crash. My gloves give me excellent grip onto my steering wheel. I wear a helmet liner to keep my hair away and head cool. My helmet and neck protector all must be worn durning racing, I could flip and roll at 60mph.

New Graphics
My New Personalised Graphics |
Number 22 |
New Front bumper inline with the new regulations. |
As a surprise My Mum and Andrew have changed the graphics on my kart and personalised it. I loooooove it!!!!!!!! Thank you so much xxxx It now matches my race suit colours and the glitter will sparkle in the sun like my helmet. I can't wait for my first race :)) yay not long to wait now.......http://www.thrgraphics.com/
Number 22
Today I registered to race at rye house my first race will be the first Sunday in june with testing on the Saturday. I have chosen to race with number 22!
I watched the races today to see what I was up against and it seems they are quick doing their laps in 44secs, so I'm going to practice to get my times near those. I have a coaching day lined up this month which I'm hoping to get some tips and shave some seconds off my laps. There are 7 boys racing in comer cadets so at least the track will not be packed number 42 Jordon Timberlake seems the best driver and has the quickest lap time so he's the one to beat!!!

If it's good enough for LEWIS Hamilton
Check out my sparkly new race helmet designed by my Step Dad Andrew it was sprayed by the same guy who sprays Lewis Hamilton's famous yellow helmet for all his F1 races. I love the colours used and the glitter paints will remind the boys there is a girl in front!!! (lol) JLFDesigns.com
